Sean McCarthy was announced as Truro City's new manager this weekend as the club begins to gear itself towards its first Southern League season.

McCarthy joins the club with a wealth of playing experience, most famously for Bradford City and in the Premiership for Oldham Athletic.

The Welsh-born striker enjoyed two spells at Plymouth Argyle and also spent two seasons at Exeter during a career which amassed 220 goals in over 500 appearances.

McCarthy has accrued his coaching credentials and has been assisting with youth development at Plymouth Argyle while also helping out with local side Manstow FC.

He was welcomed to the club on Saturday evening at the end of season party and met with several of the players and fans, before asserting his intentions of taking the club forward. McCarthy will be assisted by coach Dave Newton and both of them will be casting their eye back over the squad when the team returns to pre-season training at the end of June.

In the meantime, the club would like to welcome Sean and wish him all the best for the coming season, and beyond
