Hasmmering for Ludgvan
PORTHLEVEN 10
LUDGVAN 0
On a glorious sunny day and on a pitch that groundsman Derek Richards had worked wonders on, Porthleven made sure his efforts were not wasted as they demolished Ludgvan 10-0 in the Jolly's Combination League.
Against a side that contained a few Mousehole SWP League players, the Fishermen produced an attacking display that had it not been for a series of fine saves and a little help from the woodwork, the score could of been a lot more than ten.
Porthleven opened the scoring in the first minute when Reg Pearson headed home a Matt Fox cross.
Ten minutes later the excellent Tom Wadsworth doubled the lead with a brilliant individual goal, but as the onslaught continued the woodwork came to Ludgvan's rescue.
Mike Davies crashed a shot against the post and the young Ludgvan 'keeper made good saves from Wadsworth and Pearson.
Porthleven were finding things far to easy and started to try and play keep ball as they took their foot off the pedal and passes started to go astray allowing the visitors to at least have some ball possession.
Port lost Paddy Gardner with a foot injury after 25 minutes and he was replaced by Jordan Adlard in the centre of midfield.
Amazingly, there was no more scoring in the first half, but the second half was only a couple of minutes old when the floodgates began to open. Davies scored with a cross shot and five minutes later Ashley Stidwell scored from the penalty spot after Fox had been brought down.
Port were intent on making the most of the numerous chances that were coming their way and only some brave goalkeeping kept the score down as the 'keeper made saves from Fox, Davis, Wadsworth and Jason Robertson.
Port replaced Davies and Pearson with Nick Perry and Danny Williams but not before Pearson notched his second goal from a great Stu Yates pass.
Stidwell then scored the goal of the game, a superb 25yard shot from the corner of the penalty box that screamed in off the crossbar and post to give the 'keeper no chance.
Mark Thomas in the home goal never had a shot to save as Richard Wilkinson and Graham Cook never gave Emil Ivanov a sniff of a chance.
Port completed their second half rout with Wadsworth getting his second, Fox getting a deserved goal, Stidwell completing his hat-trick and Williams scoring on his return to the side after a few weeks out with a thigh injury.
All in all, a nice day in the sun for Port's players and with three games left they will be looking for a top six finish in their first season back in senior football.
Manager Kevin Richards said: "Some of the football we played today was exceptional. We played with pace and Ludgvan couldnt get anywhere near us. When I saw their side with at least four players from Mousehole's first team, I thought we were going to be in for a tough game. However, it seemed to work against Ludgvan because these were the first players whose heads dropped when we went in front.
"I thought my team were superb and played the type of football I know we can play. I don't like to pick out individual players as we are a team, but I must mention Ashley Stidwell who scored his second hat trick in a week after scoring one against Mullion the previous week, an even greater achievment when you consider he plays full back."
Porthleven: Mark Thomas, Ashley Stidwell, Stu Yates, Richard Wilkinson, Graham Cook, Patrick Gardner, Jason Robertson, Mike Davis, Matt Fox, Tom Wdasworth, Reg Pearson. Subs: Jordan Adlard (Gardner), Nick Perry (Davis), Danny Williams( Pearson).
